BC COMMUNITY GAMING GRANT

The Cowichan Valley Shrine Club applies each year for a BC Community Gaming Grant. This money goes towards supporting programs that the Shriners of BC & Yukon provide to the children of BC.

Through the BC Community Gaming Grant we also have over the last 20 years donated over $100,000 dollars to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation for equipment for the paediatric ward of the Cowichan District Hospital.

SHRINERS OF BC & YUKON CHILD SERVICES SOCIETY

This provides transport for BC children with specific treatment requirements to and from hospitals and treatment facilities. We have delivered this program since September 2001.

SHRINERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY FUND

The Norval MacKay Smith fund was first established around the early fifties by Noble MacKay Smith and it was later changed to the SHRINERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY FUND. The fund is used to purchase orthopaedic equipment for children such as specialized wheelchairs, orthopaedic shoes, braces and other specialized equipment. There is no application form but any family can apply by sending a request with a detailed explanation of the reason and cost to the Hospital Chairman at Gizeh.

Funding of the SHRINERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY FUND is through donations by the clubs and units and any other voluntary donations. Starting this year (2015) 13% of gaming funds will be allocated to this fund.

Over 630 children have benefited from this program providing speacialized medical equipment to improve the quality of life for children throughout the province.
